BGM: European Quarter of Brussels

Brussels, Belgium

We've come to the last post of 2018! Brussels has been the de facto capital of the European Union (EU) since the early 1960s. Its modern-looking European Quarter is contained within an approximate triangle of formed by Cinquantenaire Park, Brussels Park and Leopold Park.

Walking out of Cinquantenaire Park, I saw an information sign listing several things to look out for in summer.

Brussels hosts the official seats of the Council of the EU, European Commission and European Council, as well as a seat of the European Parliament.

The unique architectural form of the building is used in the European Commission's official emblem.

It's mentioned that many individuals see the European Quarter as an eyesore as it was developed with little regard to the aesthetics and the surroundings.

An artist named Julien Crevaels, alias NovaDead, painted a cool-looking graffiti to brighten up the mood.

My BFF and I didn't have the chance to go inside the European Parliament as we were there after 6.00pm.

Station Europe is the place to begin your visit to the European Parliament.

European Parliament's main building is named after Altiero Spinelli, one of the founders of the EU.

The old entrance of the Brussels-Luxembourg railway station, which is now entirely underground, has been repurposed to an information office of the European Parliament.

The other two European Quarters in the continent are in Strasbourg, France and the capital city of Luxembourg.
