Cliff(y) Goes Travelling

Departure Drive, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia Located about 23 km northwest of Melbourne's city centre in the suburb of Tullamarine, Melbourne Airport is Australia's second busiest airport after Sydney. Although Melbourne had kept us thoroughly entertained over the past few days, there was still another country waiting to be explored for the first time.

Truong Son Street, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam Hello again and Happy New Year 2026, everyone! Let’s continue from where we left off last month. For the final leg of the journey, I flew home with Singapore Airlines from Tan Son Nhat International Airport, the main gateway to Ho Chi Minh City that takes the crown as Vietnam's busiest aviation hub.

1-1 Centrair, Nagoya, Aichi, Japan Chubu Centrair International Airport, also known as Central Japan International Airport, is ocated on an artificial island off the coast of Tokoname in Aichi Prefecture. Opened in 2005, it was constructed to replace the former Nagoya Airport. It's since earned the reputation as one of the most efficient and passenger-friendly airports in the country.

103-09 Avenida El Dorado, Bogota, Colombia Named after the legend of a mythical city of gold, El Dorado International Airport is the primary gateway to Colombia. Known as one of the busiest airports in Latin America, the airport serves as a key hub for both Avianca and LATAM Airlines, the flag carrier of Colombia and Chile respectively.

Avenida Domingo Diaz, Panama City, Panama Tocumen International Airport is the principal international gateway to Panama, which is situated over 20 km from the capital city. Since its inauguration in 1947, it's grown to become the busiest airport in Central America. There are two terminal buildings, the second of which was opened in 2019 to accommodate the increasing demands of air travel.

Cancun-Chetumal Highway KM 22, Cancun, Mexico Located approximately 16 km southwest of the downtown area, Cancun International Airport is the easternmost airport in Mexico. Even though it's the second busiest airport in the country, handling approximately 35% of all international passengers, it's larger in size than Benito Juarez International Airport in the capital city.

975 Romeo - Vachon Boulevard, Montreal, Quebec, Canada Situated 20 km west of downtown Montreal, the international airport serving the area is named in honour of Pierre Elliott Trudeau, the 15th Prime Minister of Canada and the father of Justin Trudeau. The airport also houses the corporate headquarters complex of Air Canada, the nation's flag carrier.

1 Terminal Street, Istanbul, Turkey The year 2022 saw me stepping my feet on the new Istanbul Airport for the first time, about 4 years after its inauguration. I mentioned in my previous post on  Azerbaijan Airlines J2 76  that I'd save the post on the airport till later, but little did I know I'd lost all my photos. Such a pity, but anyway I can still briefly write about it, thanks to my BFF for sharing his with me.

Airport Road, Baku, Azerbaijan Opened to the public in 1933, Heydar Aliyev International Airport is one of the six international airports, and the biggest one, serving the country. Formerly called Bina International Airport prior to 2004, the airport is located approximately 20 km northeast of the capital city. It's the hub for Azerbaijan Airlines, the flag carrier, and Buta Airways, the low-cost subsidiary.

150 Kagamizu, Naha, Okinawa, Japan In a blink of an eye, we've reached this post on Naha Airport, which means that I've shared almost everything that I experienced during my short trip to Okinawa in 2015. It's been great reminiscing about it in the midst of my hectic schedule. Naha Airport is the primary air terminal for passengers and cargo traveling to and from the southernmost prefecture of Japan.

Changi Airport, Singapore Daily: 24 hours Jewel Changi Airport is a nature-themed shopping and entertainment complex within the premise of the world's beloved airport in Singapore. Officially opened on 18 October 2019, it covers a total gross floor area of 135,700 square metres. While it's not a new attraction to Singapore residents, I'm pretty much dedicating this post to our overseas friends who've yet to visit Jewel or simply miss the sight of it given the current travel restrictions.

Changi Airport Connector, Changi Airport Terminal 4, Singapore Changi Jurassic Mile is a shared walking and cycling path that features permanent display of life-sized dinosaurs. Stretching over 1 km, it's part of the 3.5 km Changi Airport Connector that links the airport and East Coast Park. I'm not sure why, but this year has seen dinosaurs popping up everywhere in Singapore.

Jalan KLIA, Sepang, Selangor, Malaysia I've been to the main terminal of  Kuala Lumpur International Airport  (KLIA), which is the principal international airport of Malaysia, a number of times, but last year finally saw me going to its other terminal known as KLIA2 for the first time. Built at approximately MYR 4 billion (~S$1.31 billion) , KLIA2 is the world's largest purpose-built terminal for low-cost carriers.

1-1 Furugome, Narita, Chiba Formerly known as New Tokyo International Airport, Narita International Airport is the busiest airport in Japan by international passenger count and international cargo traffic. Also known as Tokyo-Narita, the airport is actually located outside of the capital city in Chiba Prefecture, approximately 60 km to the east of central Tokyo.

Bayan Lepas, Penang, Malaysia Today's short post, as well as the next one that's going to be equally short, shall be the end of the Penang trip series. Previously known as Bayan Lepas International Airport, Penang International Airport was opened in 1935. Besides being the oldest airport in the country, it's also the third busiest airport in terms of passenger traffic.

1 Senshukukokita, Izumisano, Osaka, Japan Colloquially known as Kanku, Kansai International Airport is located on an artificial island in the middle of Osaka Bay. It was opened in the last quarter of 1994 to relieve overcrowding at the original Osaka International Airport, which is now known as Itami Airport. The latter only handles domestic flights now.

593 Mishimamachi, Omura, Nagasaki, Japan Located in Omura, one of the thirteen cities in Nagasaki Prefecture, Nagasaki Airport serves mostly domestic with a few international destinations. The airport terminal and one of the runways are situated on an island, while the shorter runway used by Japan Maritime Self-Defense Foce is on mainland Kyushu.

3211 Grant McConachie Way, Richmond, British Columbia, Canada Vancouver International Airport is the second busiest airport in Canada behind Toronto Pearson International Airport. Did you know that it serves more direct flights to and from China than any other airports in North America or Europe? It's one of the few major international airports to have a terminal for scheduled floatplanes. 

2000 Airport Road NE, Calgary, Alberta, Canada Built in the late 1930s, Calgary International Airport is the busiest airport in Alberta and the fourth busiest airport in Canada. It's located roughly 150 km away from  Banff Downtown , making it the closest airport from there. The region's petroleum and tourism industries have significantly helped foster the growth of the airport.

Phu Minh, Soc Son, Hanoi, Vietnam Noi Bai International Airport is the largest airport in Vietnam in terms of total capacity, but it is actually second to Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City in terms of land area. The former had only one terminal building, which has now become the domestic terminal  following the inauguration of the new international terminal in January 2015.
