Cliff(y) Goes Travelling

257 Senjojikishita, Gifu City, Gifu, Japan Rising to a height of 329 m, Mount Kinka stands proudly along a section of Nagara River in the heart of Gifu City. Formerly known as Mount Inaba, which was the name of the original castle perched on top of it, it's the most famous mountain in the city. Visitors can take a ropeway to the summit, a convenient alternative for those not keen on hiking all the way up.

Bogota, Colombia Monserrate is a mountain that rises above 3,000 m, overlooking the city centre of Bogota. Considered sacred since pre-Columbian times when it was inhabited by the indigenous Muisca people, the mountain is a pilgrimage site with a church perched at its summit. Beyond its spiritual significance, it's also an iconic tourist attraction.

Omihachiman, Japan One of my personal aspirations in life is to visit all 47 prefectures of Japan. For that, I brought along my family on a day trip to Shiga, a landlocked prefecture encircling Lake Biwa, Japan's largest freshwater lake. The quaint Omihachiman district was our destination, which is easily reachable by train from Kyoto.

Bukit Bendera, Penang, Malaysia Located approximately 9 km to the west of George Town, Penang Hill is a popular hill resort comprising a group of peaks, the highest of which is 833 m above sea level. The most developed peak visited by most people is known in the local language as Bukit Bendera (lit. Flagstaff Hill). My group rode on a funicular to reach that peak.

8-2 Takaha, Nada, Kobe, Japan Daily: 7.00am - 9.00pm The reason why my BFFs and I couldn't spend a longer time  Kobe Oji Zoo  was that we'd be going up to Mount Rokko to enjoy the panoramic view of Kobe and Osaka. Rokko Cable Car is a funicular that has been in operation since 1932. The difference in elevation between the lower and the upper stations is 493 m.

8 Fuchimachi, Nagasaki, Japan Daily: 9.00am - 10.00pm Opened in 1958, Nagasaki Ropeway is an aerial tramway service that allows visitors to go to the top of Mount Inasa, which is said to offer one of the best three night views of Japan, located on the western side of the city of Nagasaki. There's a way to get a discounted round-trip ticket by navigating the Japanese website, which I'll talk about in this post.

Whitehorn Drive, Lake Louise, Alberta, Canada Daily: 8.00am - 5.00pm Within Banff National Park, I was having a dilemma deciding between Banff Gondola and Lake Louise Gondola. I opted for the latter in the end, which is the gateway to one of the largest ski resorts in North America. I was in for a big surprise as I wasn't expecting snowfall at all in June 2019.

The Whistlers Trail, Jasper National Park, Alberta, Canada Daily: 10.00am - 5.00pm (22 Mar - 16 May, 3 Sep - 27 Oct),            9.00am - 8.00pm (17 May - 20 Jun),           8.00am - 9.00pm (21 Jun - 2 Sep) Built in 1964, Jasper SkyTram is Canada's highest and longest aerial tramway that ascends to a height of 2,263 m above sea level. In addition to providing access to Summit Restaurant for a dining-with-a-view experience, it leads to a hiking trail that's 193 m below the summit of The Whistlers.

Gogebashvili Street, Batumi, Georgia Daily: 11.00am - 1.00am Argo Cable Car is one of the most visited tourist attractions of Batumi that brings you up to the viewing platform at the top of Anuria Mountain. From there, you can marvel at the spectacular view of the region. I found it pretty surprising that the cable car operates all the way till 1.00am everyday.
