TRY: Grand Bazaar

Beyazit District, Istanbul, Turkey
Mon-Sat: 8.30am - 7.00pm

Grand Bazaar is one of the oldest and largest covered market complex across the globe, spanning over 61 streets with more than 4,000 shops. It's often regarded as one of the first shopping malls in the world. In 2014, it topped the chart of the world's most visited tourist attractions with over 90 million visitors.

The bazaar is a stone's throw away from Bagcilar tram station along the T1 Kabatas - Bagcilar route. Given its sheer size, it didn't feel as packed as the Egyptian Bazaar.

I didn't take a lot of pictures, but these few should offer a glimpse of the interior of the bazaar, which core was constructed in 1455.

I love Istanbul. Do you?

Such colourful lanterns and lights~

I spotted one of the four marble drinking fountains.

As mentioned above, the bazaar closes at 7.00pm. There was only one official night opening back in 1867 to celebrate the return of Sultan Abdulaziz from Egypt. He was also known to be the first sultan of the Ottoman Empire to travel to Western Europe, who eventually ordered the establishment of the Istanbul Archaeology Museums as he was in awe with the museums available in Western Europe.
