CUR: Ronde Markt

Marshe Nobo, Willemstad, Curaçao
Daily: 9.00am - 6.00pm

Literally meaning 'New Market', Ronde Markt is a traditional indoor market located in Punda, which is the downtown area of the capital city of Curaçao. The circular building houses not only vendors selling fresh produce, household items and souvenirs, but also food stalls serving local and regional cuisine.

The market is just a few minutes' walk from Queen Emma Bridge.

The moment my BFF and I stepped into the building via one of the entrances, we were greeted by the smell of fish being cut.

I used to dislike papayas, but I can take them now.

Fruit juice or smoothie to beat the heat, anyone?
As mentioned before, it's not just about edible stuff. We saw some locals buying daily necessities, such as toiletries and clothes.

There are all sorts of souvenirs with the name of the island written on them.

We saw some supplement pills being sold there.
The second floor features more food stalls with spacious seating areas.

Tastefully done wall painting!
When we were there, the old market nearby called Plasa Bieu was under renovation. As such, some of the food stalls moved to the second floor of Ronde Markt. It seems that Plasa Bieu has now reopened, and I'm not too sure whether those food stalls have moved back or are staying at Ronde Markt.
