Evert van de Beekstraat 202, Amsterdam, the Netherlands
Situated 9 km southwest of Amsterdam, Schiphol Airport isn't only the main international airport of the Netherlands, but also the third busiest airport in Europe in terms of passenger volume. Started operating as a military airbase in 1916, it was destroyed at the end of World War II, but the airfield was quickly restored with the new terminal building completed in 1949.
There's only one terminal in the airport, which is split into three large departure halls. From
CitizenM Schiphol Airport Hotel, my BFF and I walked all the way to Hall 2.

Some of the routes shown are defunct now. |
|
Schiphol Plaza is the shopping centre at the public area of the airport. |
After getting our boarding passes and baggage tags from one of the self check-in machines, we proceeded to check our luggage in.
At the point of writing, it's projected that a new pier will be opened in 2019 with a terminal extension planned to be operationally ready by 2023. Anyway, immigration clearance was fast.

There's now a branch of YOTEL at Orchard in Singapore. I shall have a staycation there one day. |
Did you know that the name of the airport came from Fort Schiphol, a fortification that was part of the Stelling van Amsterdam defence works?
|
HA HA HA! xD |
|
Getting lost at the airport? |
|
I've just noticed that there are IATA airport codes on the ceiling. :P |
It was pretty crowded downstairs.
|
There's an interesting clock featuring a virtual man painting the minutes by hand. :) |

Delta Airlines was the world's largest airline in terms of scheduled passengers carried in 2013. |
From there, we found our way to Lounge 3.
|
"Choose from 24 dishes from 7 countries, including Indonesia, Vietnam, Japan and China." |
|
Some light reading before flying off, anyone? |
Stepping into Lounge 3 brought back memories of my virgin experience in the Netherlands a few years ago.
|
I'm sure you can tell from the decor that it's an Asian restaurant. |
The airport has got more than 160 boarding gates, inclusive of 18 double jetway gates for widebody aircraft.

Hello, Singapore Airlines! :D |
Honestly, I don't understand why the vending machines in the toilets sell condoms.
We were so excited to Curaçao, a constituent country of the Netherlands, in the Caribbean.
