CAM: Independence Monument & King Norodom Sihanouk Statue

Preah Sihanouk Boulevard 274, Phnom Penh, Cambodia

Today's entry is a very short one on two important landmarks in the capital city of Cambodia, which can be found along one of the main roads called Preah Sihanouk Boulevard 274. The picture below shows the Independence Monument that was built in 1958 after gaining independence from France in 1953.

Within walking distance from the Independence Monument is an impressive statue of King Norodom Sihanouk that was unveiled on 11 October 2013 after eight months of labour. The bronze statue, housed within a 27 m tall shrine, is standing at 4.5 m.

And when you and one of the students thought alike...

That was what happened! :P
Quite nice, right?
There were lots of activities going on in the vicinity. Besides the joggers, there were adults playing badminton and small kids running around with their toys. After spending about 20 minutes there, we went back to the bus as it was about time for dinner.
