CAN: Jasper SkyTram

The Whistlers Trail, Jasper National Park, Alberta, Canada
Daily: 10.00am - 5.00pm (22 Mar - 16 May, 3 Sep - 27 Oct),
          9.00am - 8.00pm (17 May - 20 Jun),
          8.00am - 9.00pm (21 Jun - 2 Sep)

Built in 1964, Jasper SkyTram is Canada's highest and longest aerial tramway that ascends to a height of 2,263 m above sea level. In addition to providing access to Summit Restaurant for a dining-with-a-view experience, it leads to a hiking trail that's 193 m below the summit of The Whistlers.

My BFF and I'd booked the Jasper SkyTram and Shuttle package via SunDog Tours, paying C$57.15 (~S$59.20) each. From my understanding, the SkyTram ticket costs C$49.30 (~S$51.10) per adult before adding GST of 5%, while two-way shuttle costs C$10.00 (~S$10.35) per person.

We took the earliest shuttle from Jasper Adventure Centre in town at 9.10am.

The journey from town to the lower station of Jasper SkyTram took approximately 15 minutes.

We were in time to catch the 9.30am flight.
There's a café at the lower station. Besides that, a BBQ deck is available for keen souls out there.

As shown at the beginning of this post, operation hours vary throughout the year. It's not operational from 28 October to 21 March.

We were glad that the car, which can accommodate up to 26 passengers, wasn't too packed. It's mentioned that well-behaved dogs on leash are welcomed.

Doesn't the operator look like Jesus?

The elevation at the lower station is 1,258 m.

That's the town of Jasper.

It took about 7 minutes for us to reach the upper station.
Enjoy the breathtaking view up there.

I think I'm becoming less and less scared of heights as I grow older.

Look at the mountain range~

The upper station houses a gift shop on the first floor. Summit Restaurant is on the second floor.

Take note that the restaurant is not wheelchair accessible.
After successfully conquering the summit of The Whistlers, we walked back to the upper station, checking out the scenery on the other side.

Notice that blue-coloured lake? It's part of Hotel Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge.

The car that we took to go back to the lower station was much more crowded.

We made it back in one piece.

Did you know that on 25 June 2018, high winds resulted in a power surge that disabled the entire tram system? All 160 visitors, who were stranded atop The Whistlers, were rescued by helicopters by the morning of 26 June 2018.
