284-12 Ilchul-ro, Seongsan-eup, Jeju Island, South Korea
Daily: 1 hour before sunrise till sunset
Seongsan Ilchulbong, also known as the Sunrise Peak to many foreigners, is a 182 m tall tuff cone formed by hydrovolcanic eruptions many years ago. Said to resemble a gigantic ancient castle, it has a bowl-like crater that has a diameter of 600 m.
After about an hour of uneventful bus ride from
Manjanggul Cave, we finally reached at the base of Seongsan Ilchulbong.

Dunkin Donuts spotted! :P |
|
I've always enjoyed looking at flags swaying with the wind~ |
|
I wonder if there's any meaning behind those stones. |
The fee to hike up the peak is
₩2,000 (~S$2.45) per adult and ₩1,000 (~S$1.25) per child. It's not as strenuous as trekking at Hallasan, of course, but some of the steps can be a tad steep.

Oh, what an interesting rock formation! |
|
Two gorillas kissing, no? :* |
|
A wild Pikachu appeared! xD |
We didn't take long to reach the peak. The sun was nowhere to be seen though, so there went the idea of seeing the sunset at the Sunrise Peak. Haha...
|
Melon was so happy that she managed to reach the peak! :) |
|
Sticking my tongue out~ :P |
|
Be careful not to slip or something along those lines? |
After enjoying the stunning view and the serenity at the peak as we were the only two people up there, we started to descend the peak and think about what to have for dinner.
|
One last shot of the breathtaking view~ |
|
I didn't see that stone plaque earlier! |
|
Does it look like a person gargling to you? No? xD |
We had a very nice abalone porridge at
Hansung Restaurant (한성식당). Do visit my food blog to see what we else we had that evening.
At the end of the day, we managed to catch the last bus back to Jeju City and eventually had a very good night sleep.
