LAO: Hmong Village (Near Kuang Si Falls)

Near Kuang Si Waterfall Park, Luang Prabang, Laos

Exhaustion got the better of us after trekking up Kuang Si Falls, or so we thought. Still, my BFF and I, as well as the Japanese couple we went together with since morning, asked our driver to bring us around the Hmong Village not too far from the Kuang Si Waterfall Park.

The Hmong is an ethnic group from the mountainous regions of China, Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar and Thailand that began a gradual southward migration in the 18th century due to political unrest, as well as to find more arable land. In the village that we dropped by, a few individuals were wearing the traditional costumes as they tried to sell their handmade goods.

Those items are also found in the Luang Prabang Night Market at slightly higher prices.

Apart from buying some of the beautifully crafted items as souvenirs, I also took the opportunity to observe their daily activities.

Ahhhhh, carefree kids~ :)

They cheerfully waved at me before I snapped this picture.

Those two huge tanks store rainwater.
I also noticed a small, energetic puppy kept by one of the villagers. Besides that, it was heart-warming to see a hen trying to feed her chicks with whatever she could find.

I shall end this short post with this picture of a very adorable boy who kept saying, "One dollar! One dollar!", most likely the only English phrase that he knows how to say.

At the end of it, we hopped back into our van where I slept pretty soundly on the ride back to town.
