TWN: Eternal Spring Shrine @ Taroko National Park

Taroko National Park, Hualien, Taiwan

A popular picturesque spot within the national park, Eternal Spring Shrine was erected to honour those who were involved in the labour-intensive job of building the Cross-Island Highway. The construction took close to four years, claiming more than 200 lives in work-related incidents.

My BFF and I continued to make use of Bus 302 one-day ride passes, hopping on one from Tianxiang to the bus stop across the shrine that's called Changchun (長春) in Chinese.

The shrine is sitting on top of a natural spring gushing out of the rocks. <3

As you can see, the shrine was under renovation when we were there. My heart sank the moment I realised that I might not be able to take a look at its interior.

Crossing Changchun Bridge to find a way to the shrine~

True enough, the path to the shrine was closed. :(
Anyway, there's a café near the bus stop if you feel like munching on something or sipping a cup of coffee. There are also restrooms next to it.

Invasion of giant insects!
To end off this short post, here's another photo of me at the area.

Anyway, the shrine has been reconstructed twice since its original completion in 1957 due to landslides. Given its precarious position, I hope it'll last.
