AUS: Air New Zealand Lounge @ Melbourne Airport

Melbourne Airport Terminal 2, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia
Daily: 4.20am - 12.30am

Prior to my departure day, my travel buddy and I were delighted to receive an inexpensive upgrade offer for our Air New Zealand flight to Auckland. It was simply too good an opportunity to pass up as the upgrade also allowed us to check out Air New Zealand Lounge at Melbourne Airport. We had a late breakfast there before setting off on our journey across the Tasman Sea.

We walked through a quiet corridor leading to a secluded basement where several lounges are tucked away.

Which is the best lounge in Terminal 2?

Labelled "the worst SilverKris Lounge in the world", it's set to relocate to a brand-new space upstairs.

Following an extensive refurbishment in 2023, the lounge has been transformed into a bright and contemporary haven.

While black is synonymous with airline's brand, the lounge in Melbourne features touches of violet red.

There's a cosy corner near the shower suites.
Terminal 2 is built on a slope beside the aircraft parking stands. As a result, the so-called basement level of the terminal actually sits at tarmac level.

The lounge is decorated with historical photographs and advertisements on Tasman Empire Airways Limited (TEAL), which was the forerunner to Air New Zealand.

The central area of the lounge features a barista station backed by a massive digital screen displaying landscapes of New Zealand.

Let's head to the dining area where the buffet spread awaits. The lounge doesn't offer an Ă  la carte dining experience.

Aren't those petal-shaped blown glass ornaments gorgeous?
Dining wise, have a look at what I had in my food blog.

Do you prefer sandwiches or wraps?

Villa Maria Estate is located in Malborough, which is the largest wine region in New Zealand.
Air New Zealand partners with Antipodes to provide toiletries across all of its lounges.

Although I didn't use the shower facilities, I did manage to take a peek.

There are eight shower suites available.

The lounge may not be extravagant, but it certainly delivers where it matters most.
