CAM: Preah Ang Chek Preah Ang Chorm Shrine
National Highway 6, Siem Reap, Cambodia
Situated at the heart of the serene Royal Gardens is a shrine dedicated to the two guardian spirits of Siem Reap: Preah Ang Chek and Preah Ang Chorm. The former is the taller figure. Despite the fact that there were many locals flocking into the shrine that afternoon, I found the atmosphere to be calming still.

Visitors of the shrine have to take off their shoes before entering the premise.
Fun fact: the shrine is particularly believed to bring good fortune to newly married couples.
Donation for the maintenance of the shrine is most welcomed. |
Quite an ornate decoration~ |
The statues of the Angkor princesses are made of brass and bronze. Washing their feet is said to bring good luck.
Rotating colour discs adorn the revered statues. |
On my way out, I noticed the statue of a sitting elephant. I wonder if it's got a special significance.
According to history, Khmer Rouge soldiers took the two statues and dropped them into the river nearby at one point of time as part of their attempt of eradicating Buddhism in the country. They died shortly after that due to illnesses.
