BAH: Manama Downtown

Manama, Bahrain

Manama is the capital city of Bahrain, which is also the largest in the country. Having been an important trading centre in the Persian Gulf, Manama is home to a very diverse population. Besides Arabic as the official language, English is widely spoken.

As my BFF and I walked out of Swiss International Palace Hotel after checking-in and putting our stuff in the room, we were immediately greeted with the hustle and bustle of city life.

A long stretch of shops and eateries~

Prices start from BHD 0.600 (~S$2.10), I heard.

Approximately 200 m ahead is Gudaibiya Mosque.

Doesn't it look like a mini palace?

Gudaibiya Palace is where the King's cabinet meets every Sunday, the first working day of the week. I don't have any pictures of the palace though, only the walls.

We continued walking to Adliya.

That looks like a nice and quiet café.

A pottery workshop, perhaps?
Adliya is a neighbourhood of culture and entertainment. Attracting many locals and tourists alike everyday, it's got lots of cafés, restaurants, pubs and art galleries.

Stairway to heaven?

Where's the performance? :/

Those chairs aren't enough for all my soft toys at home to sit. :P
There are quite a lot of street stalls operating only in the evening.

Ice cream rolls, anyone?
We only saw the 'I <3 BH' sign when we returned to Adliya on the last day. After that, we dropped by the popular Gulf Hotel (5*).

Let's move on to another part of the city that I passed by after visiting Qal'at al-Bahrain. Look, a Qatar Airways office!

We all know why... =X
Would you like to walk in the city during summer, where the average temperature is 40 degree Celsius? I wouldn't.

You won't be disappointed dropping by Le Chocolat café.
Seef Mall is the second largest shopping mall in the Kingdom, the largest being City Centre Bahrain.

What do you think does the logo represent?

Don't forget to try some mango ice cream from Naseef Café.

It was quite a long walk to Manama Souq.

The Council for Regulating the Practice of Engineering Professions sounds quite intriguing.

City Centre Bahrain houses a waterpark named Wahooo!

What's a ship doing there? :P
On our way back to the hotel from the souq, we walked past Sacred Heart Catholic Church.

The church is only open when there's a mass.

I recall seeing lots of Indian eateries along that particular road.

Possibly the Kingdom's most iconic skyscraper, the 50-storey high Bahrain World Trade Centre was built in 2008. It appears in the safety video of Gulf Air.

The building houses Moda Mall, which is said to have the largest luxury brand portfolio.

Would you like to buy an apartment in Bahrain?

Such a luxurious timepiece~
The Diplomatic Area was so peaceful when we were there in the evening.

Blue seems to be the theme colour of the Diplomatic Area.

Nationality, Passport & Residence Affairs: the building where your e-visa is processed~

Certainly THE place for comfort food to many Filipinos working in the Kingdom!
Of course, don't forget to visit Al-Fateh Grand Mosque and Isa Cultural Centre.

The mosque isn't fantastically lit after the sun comes down.

Such a big moon! :O
Each of us clocked more than 30,000 steps each day during our 3D2N stay in Bahrain.

Below are the reviews of the eateries that we tried:
- Mama Maya (Middle Eastern)
- Naseef Café (Middle Eastern)
- Coco's (Middle Eastern and Italian)
- Le Chocolat (Middle Eastern and Italian)
- Jasmi's (fast food)
