BGM: Brussels Airport

Zaventem, Belgium

Brussels Airport is located at Zaventem, a Belgian municipality in the province of Flemish Brabant. It's among the top 25 busiest airports in Europe. Besides serving as a hub for Brussels Airlines and TUIfly Belgium, did you know that it's also one of the global hubs for Singapore Airlines Cargo?

To reach the airport, my BFF and I took a regional train to Brussels Central Station.

A one-way second class adult ticket costs €9.00 (~S$13.95).
We had two minutes between the time we got our tickets and the departure time of the next train, and we made it.

The train that we took would go all the way to Rotterdam in the Netherlands.

I remember the journey to the airport took around 20 minutes.

We were going to fly to Helsinki, Finland with Finnair.

Has anyone flown with Air Algerie before?

We were going to fly in the Economy Class cabin, but were allowed to check in
3.5 hours prior to the flight at the priority counter.
The airport wasn't crowded at all that afternoon. As shown in the flight information display system, the average queue time at the security screening was less than 5 minutes.

That was my first time seeing a RwandAir aircraft in person.

Do donate €1.00 (~S$1.55) for every 500 ml bottle of water taken.

A model of Atomium made of chocolate!
We went down the escalator that led us to the duty free shop, which passengers need to pass through in order to reach the boarding gates.

Frankly speaking, I've never bought alcohols from a duty free shop.

Pineapple is one of the summer flavours of Neuhaus chocolates.
In 2018, Brussels Airport celebrated its 60th anniversary as a civilian airport. It started as a backup airfield established by German occupying forces in 1940 before opening its doors for commercial flights in 1958.

I'm not a huge fan of Tintin, but I did recognise that model of his rocket.

I spent some time looking at a selection of delicacies there, such as smoked salmon and cheese.

Brussels Airlines has got three lounges at at the airport. The one and only lounge outside of Belgium is at N'djili Airport in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo.

After visiting Diamond Lounge, which shall be covered in the next post, we slowly walked to the boarding area.

There's a Pierre Marcolini ice cream kiosk near Gate A43.

Indulging in art~
I believe many of us can recall the bombing incident that took place at Brussels Airport, as well as Maelbeek (French) or Maalbeek (Dutch) metro station, in the morning of 22 March 2016. Let's take a moment to remember the victims, and pray for them and their families.
