JPN: Mikasa Ryokan

728-10 Kawakami-cho, Nara City, Nara, Japan

Perched on the slopes of Mount Wakakusa, Mikasa Ryokan (3*) is a haven of tranquility, making it a choice of accommodation that I was truly grateful for booking. It was a restful one-night retreat, thanks to the peaceful ambience and picturesque surroundings. The hotel provides a free shuttle service from its small office near Kintetsu Nara station.

The moment we stepped into the establishment, we were warmly welcomed by the staff who then guided us to the lounge area for check-in. As a delightful gesture, each of us were presented with a cup of green tea accompanied by sweets, setting the tone for a hospitable and enjoyable stay.

Here are two photos of the lounge area taken in the evening, which doubles up as a bar where you can purchase a glass or two from a selection of drinks.

The gift shop beckons with an array of charming treasures and delightful snacks.

Here's a breathtaking scenery seen from one of the windows next to the elevator.

Regrettably, I don't have many photos of the standard room spanning 29 square metres. A few of the rooms are equipped with open-air bath tub.

We just had to don the traditional wear for a cherished family photo.
Ladies get to choose their desired design.

The miso (Japanese fermented rice, barley and/or soybean) rice crackers lean towards the sweet side.

Turndown service happened during dinner time, assuring that the mattresses were ready for our restful night ahead.

The public bath is open from 5.30am to 9.00am and 3.00pm to midnight. While I'm aware of that we're not supposed to bring in a mobile phone, I seized the opportunity to quickly capture a shot of the outdoor bath as it was empty. As a matter of fact, I had the entire bath to myself on both days.

Opting for a room with half-board plan, we got to dine at the hotel on two occasions: dinner on the first day and breakfast the following day.

It's also possible to avail the shuttle bus service from JR Nara station to the hotel, but advance reservation is required.
