Welcome to the start of a new series of travel posts! Our long-awaited family trip, which happened in December 2022, led us to explore the Kansai region of Japan. This series is going to be a rather brief one as I've unfortunately lost most of the photos I took, except those I've shared on Instagram. Still, join us as we revisit and relive our adventure!

Residing in different parts across the globe, our family had last come together in 2018 prior to the trip. We'd initially planned to go for my sister's graduation in Istanbul, Turkey in 2020, but COVID-19 came and threw our plan down the drain. Anyway, to have my mother joining us in this trip was a testament to her resilience and stable condition ever since her cancer diagnosis in early 2017.

To the envy of my friends and colleagues, I managed to secure a pretty good deal on return flights with Malaysia Airlines, which was priced at around S$600.00 per person. The short hop to Kuala Lumpur was pleasantly uneventful. We were treated to a light refreshment of salted peanuts and orange juice during the flight.

That wasn't my maiden voyage on MH52 to Osaka, Japan. The previous occasion was nearly a decade ago when my BFFs and I were going to embark on a snowy adventure in Hokkaido. I must say that, much like on that earlier trip, the departure of the flight was delayed for roughly an hour.

I'd forgotten to reserve seats for our flight, which led to all four of us being seated separately. In my case, I found myself allocated a seat in the middle of the 2-4-2 seating configuration.

Compared to my previous flight experience where they began with a light refreshment and then breakfast service, this time round they reversed the sequence by serving a more substantial supper first before the light refreshment towards the end of the flight. Personally, I found the previous arrangement more preferable as it allowed passengers to be able to rest more promptly after take-off. Do take a look at my food blog post for more details.

Supper main course: Classic Beef Lasagna
Refreshment: Corn Dog and Salted Peanuts

The thought of revisiting the enchanting regions of Kyoto, Osaka and Nara, all of which held fond memories from my previous trips, made me so excited as we landed at Kansai International Airport. Furthermore, I was eagerly looking forward to visiting two more prefectures on this journey: Shiga and Wakayama.
