FJI: Port Denarau

Denarau Island, Fiji

Port Denarau surely doesn't sound unfamiliar to those who plan to visit the picturesque islands to the northwest of Viti Levu. However, apart from being the gateway to the outlying islands, the port offers an al fresco shopping and dining experience to visitors.

Those of you who don't wish to walk may want to take advantage of the Bula Bus, which provides easy transport around the island. At the point of writing, an adult ticket costs FJD 8.50 (~S$5.60), while a child above 2 years old needs the FJD 2.00 (~S$1.30) ticket.

As the kind of person who prefers walking, I took less than 30 minutes to reach the port from Hilton Fiji Beach Resort and Spa. Along the way, I saw many residences belonging to filthy rich individuals, as well as a few yachts parked in front of some of them.

Welcome to Port Denarau!

Let's take a look inside the passenger terminal.
The Captain Cook Cruises offers the ever-popular scenic dinner.

Due to the very limited amount of time I had in Fiji, I haven't had the chance to hit the seas from the port. Anyway, look at all those yachts and ships.

There are quite a few souvenir shops around, such as the premier Jack's of Fiji. On top of that, there are quite a few restaurants offering multifarious cuisines to suit everyone's taste buds.

A clock tower, so to speak~
Hard Rock Café, you guessed that right.

Lovely Fiji Rum!
Oh, those of you who've got a lot of money may consider getting an island or two in Fiji. Here's one advertisement that I took a picture of, selling twin islands for FJD 1,500,000 (~S$990,847). Hmm, that's not THAT expensive actually, given that a condominium here in Singapore can easily cost much more.

There's a Mandarin translation on the ads if you notice.
I had a sumptuous Fijian dinner at the well-known Nadina Authentic Fijian Restaurant that evening. Given the quality of the food and the vista to behold, I was really wishing that time could just freeze at that moment.

Afterall, I don't often get a change to enjoy this view over dinner...
I also tried Cardo's Steakhouse & Cocktail Bar on my last day before flying back home. Be sure to check out my food blog for the review.
