MAS: Penang International Airport

Bayan Lepas, Penang, Malaysia

Today's short post, as well as the next one that's going to be equally short, shall be the end of the Penang trip series. Previously known as Bayan Lepas International Airport, Penang International Airport was opened in 1935. Besides being the oldest airport in the country, it's also the third busiest airport in terms of passenger traffic.

If you recall from one of the earlier posts, my group took Bus 401 from the airport to town. Similarly, to go to the airport, we took Bus 401 from Komtar Bus Terminal.

At the point of writing, expansion of the airport will be done in stages by 2029
to increase the capacity from 6.5 million to 12 million passengers per annum.

Just curious... Have you been to a country without McDonald's?

The queue for check-in with Silk Air was quite long, but thankfully it was moving fast.

It wasn't as crowded as I thought after passing through security clearance and immigration.

Oops, I suppose that guy must've accidentally stepped on something.

Hailing from Ipoh, Yee Hup has been serving traditional pastries since 1981.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe Plaza Premium Lounge is the only lounge that you can find at the airport.

There are a few shops selling food and beverages nearer to the gates.

Penang International Airport wins the runner-up title for handling a large amount of cargo tonnage in the country, second only to Kuala Lumpur International Airport.
