MAS: Sutera Sanctuary Lodges @ Kinabalu Park

Kinabalu Park, Ranau, Malaysia

Sutera Sanctuary Lodges (3*) offers a number of accommodation options, from hostel to villas, inside Kinabalu Park. Upon seeing a good deal online, my BFF and I decided to stay for 2D1N in the two-storey Liwagu Suite, inclusive of dinner and breakfast the next day.

The reception office is at the building next to the entrance of the national park.

If I'm not mistaken, you're required to do a refundable deposit of MYR 100.00 (~S$31.80).

No. 1 (out of four)!
Depending on your walking speed, you need to walk around 5 to 10 minutes from the reception office to where the Liwagu Suites are.

We walked past the hostel.

The Liwagu building, housing four suites and a restaurant, was declared open on 14 March 1981.

BTW, Liwagu is the name of a river that runs through the national park. Get ready to see the interior of the room!

All hail Pikachu and Melon! :P

Sabah Tea is owned by the largest tea producer that goes by the same name in the island of Borneo.

For hot water, you need to turn on the heater and wait for 30 minutes before showering.

Enjoying the melody of the chirping birds~ Play the video clip below!

Let's go up to the second floor!

Such comfortable bed and pillows~

I've always loved a two-storey room! :D
We had lunch and dinner at the cosy Liwagu Restaurant.

The map shows some of the parks and nature reserves designated as UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

Tastefully done decor~

There's a small lounge at the restaurant where we had hot beverages in the evening before going to bed.

Hot chocolate and teh tarik (lit. pulled tea)~ :)
In the morning, we had a refreshing walk in the cool morning breeze to Balsam Buffet Restaurant, which is located across the reception office. Read here to find out about the spread of the breakfast buffet.

The restaurant was quite empty at around 7.15am that morning.

Made-to-order omelette or noodle soup, anyone?

All things considered, it was an enjoyable stay at Sutera Sanctuary Lodges. The only first world problem is the fact that there's no Wi-Fi connection inside any of the rooms.
