MAS: Kota Kinabalu International Airport

Jalan Lapangan Terbang (Baru), Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia

Located approximately 8 km away southwest of the city centre, Kota Kinabalu International Airport is the second busiest airport in the country. It was originally a military airfield built by the Imperial Japanese Army during World War II known as Jesselton Airfield.

My BFF and I took a cab from Dreamtel Kota Kinabalu at 6.00am. It appears that I forgot to take a picture inside the cab, something that I usually do if you've noticed from the previous posts in this blog. Anyway, we were going to fly to Manila, the Philippines via Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei with Royal Brunei Airlines once again.

The airport was pretty quiet in the morning.

We were going to try flying in the Business Class cabin. :)
As there isn't much to see at the public area, we immediately made our way to the transit area after completing the check-in process.

The design of the columns is inspired by wakid, a basket that serves as a symbol of preparing for a meaningful journey in Sabahan tradition.

There's also another branch of Jesselton Kopitiam in the transit area.

Clearing the immigration and security screening was fast. The transit area has got a few shops, though I didn't exactly check them out.

We didn't see anyone ahead of us.

Care for duty free shopping?

I wonder who is "the global leader in creating airport cities".
We made our way to Plaza Premium Lounge, which is going to be the topic for the next post. After having breakfast there, we proceeded to the boarding gate.

The flight wasn't going to be full for sure.

Hello again, A320!
I'm going to combine the pictures for the very short flight on BI822 from Kota Kinabalu to Bandar Seri Begawan with those on BI683 from Bandar Seri Begawan to Manila into one post sometime this week. Stay tuned!
