Did you know that Anpanman is one of the most popular anime series among young children in Japan? Though I'm not a big fan of it, I did grow up with the superhero that's the personification of anpan (Japanese sweet bread filled with red bean paste). Out of curiosity, my BFFs and I went all the way to the shopping mall dedicated to it in Kobe.

The museum and shopping mall are located in a shopping and entertainment district known as Kobe Harborland. It's slightly less than a kilometre walk from Meriken Park.

Baikinman (lit. Bacteria Man) is the antagonist of the series.

We didn't enter the museum. The fee is ¥1,800 (~S$23.55) per person aged 1 and above.

There's a Ferris wheel nearby, which isn't part of Kobe Anpanman Children’s Museum and Mall. I didn't check how much does it cost to have a ride.

The shopping mall isn't that big, but does have a variety of shops and eateries.

The Anpanman figure at that biscuit shop is pretty adorable.

Do you like crêpes?
There must be a bakery there, of course! Too bad we were so full that we decided not to try any.

Anpanman was born when a shooting star landed in Uncle Jam's oven while he was baking the bread.

Anpanman was written by Takashi Yanase from 1973 until his death in 2013. He faced starvation during World War II, which made him dream about eating anpan that eventually became the inspiration for the series.

Since I was alone in the washroom, I just had to take a quick shot.

Kabao is a food-loving hippo.

We purposely waited for the meet-and-greet session before leaving the shopping mall.

To be honest, I was quite disappointed to see a skinny Anpanman.

See how the characters engaged the kids.

Prior to writing this post, I didn't know that the museum is also available in other cities, such as Fukuoka and Nagoya.
