CHN: Pearl River Night Cruise
Pearl River, Guangzhou, Guangdong, China
Zhujiang (lit. Pearl River) is an extensive river system in southern China, which is so named due to the pearl-coloured shells that lie on the riverbed. They say it's a must to go for a scenic river cruise, particularly after dark, when you're a first timer in Guangzhou. My BFF and I chose to sail with GZ Star.

Our journey began from Tianzi Wharf. Back in 2012, an adult ticket with a drink onboard cost RMB 48.00 (~S$9.95). It should be much more expensive now.
Here's a photo of the building facade during the day. |
Have a look at two murals at the wharf.
Tianzi Wharf is the oldest wharf on the Pearl River in Guangzhou.
Did you know that Sun Yat-sen escaped to Hong Kong on a ferry from Tianzi Wharf in 1883? |

I think that photo was taken in 1933. |
We set sail to the east at 8.00pm. Honestly, I can't remember how long was the cruise, but I suppose it was probably an hour or so.
Pretty sure I had a cup of tea onboard. |
Pardon the low quality, but here's the only video that I took. I also had to compress it since Blogger only allows videos up to 100 MB each.
Zhujiang is the third longest river in China after Yangtze (lit. Long River) and Huang He (lit. Yellow River).
Haiyin Bridge was completed in 1988. |
If I'm not mistaken, the structure illuminated in blue is Xinghai Concert Hall. |
Decked to in colourful lights, Canton Tower stands at 604 m. Before being overtaken by Tokyo Skytree, it was the tallest tower in the world from August 2009 to March 2011.
It was time to head back to Tianzi Wharf after all of us had a closer look at Canton Tower.
I remember there weren't many people on the upper deck because of the rather chilly breeze, which I really enjoyed. |
Rainbow colours spotted at Jiangwan Bridge! |
The two of us were among the last few to disembark.
Dinner cruise is also available, but we decided not to go for that as we just wanted to put our focus on the scenery.
