SUR: Paramaribo Waterkant

Waterside Straat, Paramaribo, Suriname

The riverside promenade in the capital city of Suriname may not offer much compared to others I've been elsewhere, but it's still worth passing by nonetheless. In addition to offering a view of Suriname River, it has got a few monuments erected there.

My BFF and I had a leisurely stroll without seeing many people around.

Do you love Suriname? I certainly won't mind going back there.

Unveiled in 2013, TRIS Monument commemorates soldiers fighting for Suriname's independence.
There's a remnant of what looks like a fort near Fort Zeelandia, though I believe the former isn't part of the latter.

Rather well-preserved, eh?

A statue of Queen Wilhelmina of the Netherlands stands near Fort Zeelandia.

Suriname River is 480 km long.

Brown and murky...

Little did I know that there were Surinamese soldiers involved in the Korean War.

There are wooden buildings and eateries around the area.

For those who enjoy beer, you may want to have some local Parbo Bier while enjoying the view of the river.
