SUR: Sunset and Dolphins Trip (Part 1)

Paramaribo, Suriname

Orange Travel is a highly reliable tour and travel company based in Paramaribo. Prior to our arrival, my BFF and I'd engaged them to book a spot for a popular 3-hour trip that'd bring us across Suriname River and Commewijne River in the northern part of the capital city.

We took a cab from Eco Resort Inn, spending SR$25.00 (~S$4.65) for a 15-minute ride to Leonsberg Pier. When we reached there, rain started pouring down, dampening our spirit.

Thankfully, we didn't have to wait long before the sky cleared up. We saw more and more people arriving at the pier before spotting our guide. Anyway, we paid €27.50 (~S$43.35) per person via PayPal when we booked the trip.

Thank God for the good weather throughout the trip. :)

I was the first person to hop onto the boat.

We interacted with this lovely French family the most during the trip.

We were asked to don our life jackets before eventually setting off from the pier at 4.18pm.

As our amiable and gregarious guide explained to us about the geographical aspects of Suriname, we indulged in some snacks and drinks.

I love tapioca chips! :D

My BFF and I couldn't get enough of passion fruit juice.
We were also lucky to be able to spot some of the dolphins playing at the confluence of Suriname River and Commewijne River.

There was another tour boat circling around to see the dolphins too.

Oh no, sharks! xD

Guianese dolphins resemble bottlenose dolphins, but are slightly smaller in size.

The next part of the trip was a brief stopover at a coastal village, which shall be elaborated in Part 2. When we got back to the boat, we enjoyed some marinated olives.

Our boat edged closer to some trees speckled with something white.

Never had I seen such a large number of birds so close before. :O

When sunset finally came, we were reminded of how time flew when we were having so much fun.

“The sky, at sunset, looked like a carnivorous flower.” ~ Roberto Bolano

And so the boat picked up speed to bring us back to Paramaribo~
We were dropped off at the pier at 7.00pm. Our guide helped us call a cab so that we could go back to the resort.

That beam of light, albeit not green, made me think of the green light in The Great Gatsby. :P

For a quick reply, you can contact Orange Travel via Facebook. That was what I did to find out more about the trip before doing the booking formally through e-mail correspondence.
