SXM: Princess Juliana International Airport

Airport Road, Simpson Bay, Sint Maarten

Princess Juliana International Airport is the bigger of the two airports of the Caribbean island of Saint Martin, which is located in the southern half belonging to the Netherlands. It's named after Queen Juliana of the Netherlands who landed there in 1944, four years before her coronation.

The airport serves as the hub for Winair, a local government-owned airline founded in 1961.

SXM is the IATA code for Princess Juliana International Airport in Sint Maarten,
while EUX is the IATA code for F.D. Roosevelt Airport in Sint Eustasius.

As of June 2018, the terminal building was not operationally ready yet due to ongoing rehabilitation from the devastating Hurricane Irma that hit the island in September 2017. My BFF and I were directed to the temporary departure area.

Domino's Pizza truck!
We proceeded for check-in with Air France.

As we were quite early, the check-in area was rather empty.

I recall there was no free Wi-Fi at the transit area.

The air-conditioning wasn't strong enough, especially with the sun glaring intensely outside.

Have you tried guavaberry liqueur before?

To quench our thirst, we bought a bottle of Old Jamaican ginger beer to share. We paid US$3.00 (~S$4.15) for that.

Here's a fun fact. The shortest international commercial flight is from Sint Maarten to Anguilla, a British overseas territory, by Anguilla Air Services. Apparently, it takes only 10 minutes to travel between the two islands by air.
