JPN: Narita International Airport

1-1 Furugome, Narita, Chiba

Formerly known as New Tokyo International Airport, Narita International Airport is the busiest airport in Japan by international passenger count and international cargo traffic. Also known as Tokyo-Narita, the airport is actually located outside of the capital city in Chiba Prefecture, approximately 60 km to the east of central Tokyo.

My BFF and I bought our Narita Express tickets the day before our departure from Shinjuku railway station for ¥3,250 (~S$42.40) each. We hopped on the first train scheduled to depart at 5.55am.

Abbreviated as N'EX, the limited express train service has been operating since 1991.

It's free seating in the ordinary cars.

The journey to Narita International Airport Terminal 2 took slightly less than an hour and a half.

Chiba Prefecture borders Ibaraki Prefecture to the north, Tokyo and Saitama Prefecture to the west,
the Pacific Ocean to the east and Tokyo Bay around its southern boundary.
Terminal 2, comprising a main building and a satellite building, was opened in 1992.

The terminal has been serving as a hub for all Oneworld alliance carriers since 2010.

Japan Airlines is the main operator in Terminal 2, While All Nippon Airways reigns in Terminal 1.
Row K is reserved for Business Class passengers of Japan Airlines.

Everyone was so excited about Tokyo 2020, but enthusiasm for the event to be carried out in 2021 has very much dwindled at the point of writing, thanks to COVID-19.

We explored the public area before passing through the immigration checkpoint.

I wonder when will I get to see sakura (lit. cherry blossoms) in full bloom?

I wonder if that person was waiting for the Pokémon Store to open.

Sold exclusively at Narita International Airport: castella with Mount Fuji design!
There's an open-air space for plane spotting.

How many different airlines can you spot?
Holding Business Class tickets allowed us to use the priority lane to go to the transit area.

The main building and the satellite building used to be connected by then the first cable-driven shuttle system in Japan, but it has been discontinued since the completion of the walkway between the two in 2013.

Fa-So-La is the largest duty-free shop at the airport.

That must be the female version of Raijin, the God of lightning, thunder and storm in Japanese mythology.

At the main building, we walked past JAL First Class Lounge and Sakura Lounge that's accessible to not only Business Class passengers, but also those flying in Premium Economy Class and Economy Class under the flexible Y fare.

The total area of Terminal 2 is 391,000 square metres.

Perhaps there are some activities that you can partake in there from 2.00pm to 6.00pm.

Would you like to use one of those semi-private cubicles?

Any fans of Kamen Rider here? My brother is one since he was young.
Day rooms and showers are available at the satellite building. Based on what I've seen online, at least one of the rooms is facing the tarmac.

Terminal 2 is equipped with 32 boarding gates.

I'd certainly love to go to Finland again with Finnair.
Have you been to Terminal 3, which is used by low-cost carriers? The 24-hour food court there is the largest airport food court in Japan.
