JPN: Inokashira Park Zoo (Part 1)

[Lakeside Park]
Inokashira Park, Mitaka, Tokyo, Japan
Tue-Sun: 9.30am - 5.00pm

First opened to the public in 1942, Inokashira Park Zoo is taking care of more than 170 animal species. It's divided into two sections: Main Park in Musashino and Lakeside Park in Mitaka. This post features the latter, which my BFF and I visited first. It's inhabited mainly by water birds, as well as fishes, amphibians and reptiles inside the aquarium.

The admission fee that you pay covers both parks. At the point of writing, it's ¥400 (~S$5.20) per adult. Seniors aged 65 and above pay half of that, while children up to age 12 can enter for free.

There used to be an elephant at the zoo, but it has passed on.
I'm not sure if there are more animal stamps placed throughout the zoo, but I recall only finding one near the entrance of the Lakeside Park.

How many of the following species do you know by name?

Spot the odd one out!

It kept stoning for quite some time even after I moved away from it.

Did you know that the mating ritual of cranes is a complicated dance that includes
fast movement of the feet, jumping, stretching and bowing?

Below is a short video clip of the cranes patiently, or perhaps not, waiting for the staff member to finish filling their mini pond after cleaning.

Don't you think male mandarin ducks look handsome?

Would you like to hug some of those fluffy ducks?

Here's a video clip showing how fast the presumably hungry duck ate its food.

We enjoyed the peaceful atmosphere of the Lakeside Park.

I just got to know not long ago that swans can fly as fast as 60 miles per hour.
Take a look at the different eggs laid by the different species.

The aquarium at the Lakeside Park is called Aquatic Life House.

You're allowed to touch, but not grab them.

They were probably too lazy to join the rest that were swimming actively.

Say hello to a Japanese newt!

Did you notice a seemingly grumpy guy there?

That looks like a catfish to me.

I recorded a short video of two of my favourite animals playing in the water.

Last but not least, we also saw these two creatures residing in the Aquatic Life House.

Stay tuned for Part 2 that covers the Main Park!
