Buyukada, Istanbul, Turkey
Today's post shall be the last of Buyukada series, which highlights the highest point of the island where a Greek Orthodox church is standing on. Do take a look at the
ferry ride,
Buyukada (Part 1) and
Dilburnu Nature Park for a complete picture of the day trek that I did with my BFF and my sister.
With our stomachs growling, we had to continue taking the ascending path in order to reach a restaurant we had in mind.

Such a colourful café! |
|
I guess the dog in the middle was rather shy. |
We weren't expecting it, but we saw quite a few cows along the way, two of which were either playing or fighting. Take a look at the short video clip below.
|
Christmas isn't a holiday in Turkey, but Christmas decorations have started to become more common. |
There are quite a number of stalls selling souvenirs outside the restaurant.
The lunch gave us the energy to trek up a paved path to the highest point of the island. It took us about 20 minutes to reach the top.
|
Holding hands with your loved one would probably help in your hike. |
There's a heliport, but unauthorised people aren't allowed to enter the area.
I used to think that all wishing trees would look nice until I saw a few up there bearing countless amount of what look like remnants of plastic bags.
For all they're worth, they're an indication that you're getting close to the peak of the hill. Do take some time to get yourself absorbed in the atmosphere inside Aya Yorgi Kilisesi (lit. Church of St. George), which is said to be visited by not only Christians, but also Muslims praying to St. George for healing. Photography isn't allowed inside, though I saw someone secretly taking photos with her phone.
|
The church was opened in 1909. |
Feeling hungry after the hike? There's a restaurant next door.
Enjoy the panorama as much as you like before going down.
|
You may want to use one of the coin-operated binoculars if you have spare coins. |
Upon returning to Lunapark Restaurant, we randomly took one of the paths that'd lead us to the north.
|
What do you see, or rather, want to see in the distance? |
|
I'm not too sure if that's a mosque or a house. |
We stopped by the grounds of Hamidiye Church. When my sister was resting at one of the benches, a big fat cat jumped to her lap and refused to go away.
Soon enough we found ourselves back at the town area.
We caught the
ferry at 5.35pm and disembarked at Eminonu at 7.15pm.
