JPN: Yufuin No Mori 3

Fukuoka-Beppu (3h 12m)
ETD: 10.24am (GMT + 9)
ETA: 1.36pm (GMT + 9)

From Fukuoka, my BFFs and I'd be going to Beppu, one of the most famous hot spring resort towns in Japan. Yufuin No Mori (lit. The Forest of Yufuin) is a resort train service run by JR Kyushu. Seat reservation is compulsory to take the train that prides itself in its warm wooden interior.

In total, there are six Yufuin No Mori trains. We boarded Yufuin No Mori 3 from Platform 5 at Hakata railway station.

Yufuin No Mori 3 is a 4-car train.

We were assigned to seats inside car no. 3.

A foot rest is available at each seat.

There's a small lounge onboard Yufuin No Mori 3 and 4.

Only Japanese books and magazines are available.

Not long after the train started moving, an announcement regarding the train route and schedule, as well as some of the highlights onboard, was made entirely in Japanese. The train crew assisted by showing some cards written in both Japanese and English with pictures.

You may want to queue at the snack bar as soon as possible, especially if you're thinking of getting the lunch boxes. Head to my food blog for a review of some of the food and beverages sold onboard.

Feel free to take a commemorative card at the snack bar counter. Don't forget to stamp on its back face.

One of the car-joining sections looks cool.

Take a look at the vista.

Somehow, I've always enjoyed the sight of power towers.
Perhaps that's because we don't have them at all in Singapore.

Do you prefer living in such a town or a big city?

“Life is like the river, sometimes it sweeps you gently along and
sometimes the rapids come out of nowhere.” ~ Emma Smith
After passing through Amagase railway station, I witnessed Jion Falls. Here's the best photo that I could take with my Samsung Galaxy S7.

The lavatory that I went to was clean.

Perhaps you could tell that it was a bit of a struggle to take that photo.

Not long after going back to my seat, the cabin crew distributed some sweets.

Many people dropped off at Yufuin, another well-known hot spring resort town. We'd be going there the following day.

Yufuin is located approximately 10 km away from Beppu.

Mount Yufu is a stratovolcano located on the border of Yufuin and Beppu.
I knew we'd be reaching Beppu soon the moment the sea came to view.

Thanks for the ride!

Anyway, you can ride on Yufuin No Mori using JR Kyushu Rail Pass. Prior to the trip, I'd purchased a 5-day pass for Northern Kyushu online for each of us. At the point of writing, the pass costs ¥10,190 (~S$126.00).

Take note that there are times when all Yufuin No Mori trains are out of service, in which case they are replaced by the inferior Yufu trains that don't have onboard sales. Do check the latest timetable on the JR Kyushu website when planning for your trip.
