After putting our bags inside the lockers, taking off our shoes and getting our hands sprayed with disinfectant, we entered the space resembling the interior of a traditional house.

Fri-Sat: 9.00am - 10.00pm
Shiba inu is a Japanese hunting dog breed that's well-loved by many. Look no further than Mameshiba Café should you wish to pet and play with those adorable smaller-sized dogs. One session at the café lasts 30 minutes, and if you're lucky, you can get another 30 minutes for free should there be no other guests coming in.

There are quite a few branches across Japan. My BFFs and I visited the one located at the shopping mall outside Huis Ten Bosch amusement park. The fee is ¥880 (~S$11.95) per adult and ¥680 (~S$9.20) per child aged 6 to 12. Children below the age of 6 aren't permitted to enter the café.
A video about the rules was shown before we were allowed to enter the café. |
What an old TV set! |
The fee includes a cup of hot or cold drink from the vending machine. |
Are you ready for cuteness overload?
It's permissible to take photos and videos without flash. |
It's not surprising that all of the dogs there are females to avoid unwanted reproduction. |
According to a member of the staff, that's the boss in the house. |
Guests aren't allowed to pick up any of the dogs. Be patient and let one come to you naturally. Take a look at those that went to find comfort in my BFFs.
Some of the dogs wear diapers. |
Awwwwww... Sleeping so tightly~ |
I had my fair share of cuddling a few of those lovable dogs too.
It was obviously not easy to ask her to look at the camera. |
Look at that peaceful sleeping face~ |
The two video clips below shows the interactions between the staff and the dogs.
The dogs play fight sometimes.
Lady luck was smiling on us that day as we could stay longer than expected as the café was waiting for other guests to come. Towards the end of our extended session, some of the dogs were getting tired after being so active earlier.
Take note that while the café operates till 9.00pm or 10.00pm, the last admission to see the dogs is at 7.30pm daily as they need enough rest. You can still get some merchandise and drinks after 8.00pm.
