TRY: Turkish Airlines TK1887 (Business)

IST-VIE (2h 15m)
Airbus 321
ETD: 5.10pm (GMT + 3)
ETA: 6.25pm (GMT + 2)

Here's a post on the first of the three flights to reach home the long way. It'd been a while since I last flew with Turkish Airlines, the last time being in 2015 for the domestic route from Izmir to Istanbul, Turkey. Hence, the flight from Istanbul, Turkey to Vienna, Austria was my very first international flight with the airline.

After enjoying ourselves inside the massive Turkish Airlines Lounge, my BFF and I boarded the aeroplane from Gate F9B.

As the aircraft has been around for more than 10 years, it's no surprise that the seats are looking rather tired.

Business class seat configuration: 2-2

At least there are personal screens. The airline still has a fleet of older A321s not equipped with those.

Two flight attendants went down the row to hand each of us a noise-cancelling Philips headphone and a hot towel. Speaking of hot towels, it's nice to know that a fellow Star Alliance member, Singapore Airlines, is going to restore hot tower service across all cabins by the end of 2023.

Subsequently, we were offered non-alcoholic welcome drinks.

In addition, each of us received a hygiene kit.

I know I'll be back to Turkey in the future, so see you again! My mother didn't have the chance to visit my sister while she was still a student at Marmara University in Istanbul, so I'm definitely going to bring her along someday.

Instead of flying eastbound to Singapore, we flew to the west first, "reach[ing] home the long way" as mentioned earlier.

I played a catapult game featuring an octopus while waiting for the meal to be served.
Check out the menu for the day.

Is anyone here a fan of raki, a highly alcoholic drink made of twice-distilled grapes and aniseed?

We'd wanted to share the beef and fish dishes, but unfortunately the latter had run out by the time the flight attendant came to us. Do head to my food blog for more details on the food and beverages.

In a blink of an eye, we were already descending into Vienna International Airport that's located in a city called Schwechat.

Schwechat is about 18 km southeast of central Vienna.

Did you hear that Turkish Airlines had unveiled its plan to order 600 new aircraft earlier this year?

Perhaps there was an announcement that the first bus would bring us to the Schengen area of the airport, but since I had to rush to the lavatory after the seat belt sign had been switched off, I didn't hear any. That was the shortest time I've ever spent in a Schengen area, which was less than 10 minutes.
