JPN: Mihama American Village

9-1 Mihama, Chatan, Okinawa, Japan

It's no surprise that there are still numerous American military bases in Okinawa if one thinks about the history surrounding the prefecture. One of the most notable military facilities that's been redeveloped as a commercial area is Mihama American Village. The entertainment complex first opened its doors to the public in 1998.

I've only taken cabs in Okinawa and not other parts of Japan. My BFFs and I dropped off at Chatan Park that's within the same vicinity as Mihama American Village.

I didn't see them, but the beach park has got an open-air swimming pool and a thermal bath complex.

I wonder why I didn't book a room at any of the hotels around there.
In case of a tsunami...

The low season in Okinawa is during winter from November to February. Although it's winter, the temperature range is typically around 14 to 21 degree Celsius. Anyhow, anytime is a good time for ice cream.

Custard pudding flavour!
It's not difficult to locate Mihama American Village that's got a Ferris wheel as its most recognisable feature.

American Depot claims to be "the trend-setting centre for American fashion" with the largest range of items in Okinawa.

"Frosty the snowman was a jolly happy soul~"
The sun was shining so brightly that day.

We made our way to the building where the Ferris wheel is.

In the Land of the Rising Sun, A&W can only be found in Okinawa.

Given only one choice, would you like to travel to the past or the future?
Back in 2015, each of us paid ¥500 (~S$6.25) to get on the Ferris wheel. At the point of writing, an adult ticket costs ¥600 (~S$7.50).

The Ferris wheel is 57 m tall with a diameter of 45 m.

There are 32 cabins, each with a maximum capacity of four people.

You can enjoy a ride from 11.00am to 10.00pm daily.

"Born in Okinawa, Raised in Okinawa" is the slogan of Blue Seal, a popular ice cream chain in the prefecture. Don't miss it when you're in Okinawa!

Which is the most eye-catching scoop to you?
Here are some photos after dark.

Depot Island is the name of the waterfront complex in Mihama American Village.

Such a peaceful evening~

We had a taste of the unique Okinawan cuisine at Rinken's Kitchen.

After dinner, it was time to say goodbye to the entertainment complex. I recall it wasn't difficult to get a cab there.

If you're based in Naha, you can take Bus 28, 29 or 120 from Naha Bus Terminal to Gunbyoin-mae, a bus stop in front of a hospital not far from Mihama American Village. The journey takes about 40 minutes.
