SIN: Sentosa Island Lights 2020 [till 10 January 2021]
Siloso Beach, Sentosa Island, Singapore
Daily: 7.30pm - 10.30pm
I saw quite a number of kids getting excited about the moving light projections.
Daily: 7.30pm - 10.30pm
'Sentosa Island Lights' is an annual light-up festival held at the resort island off Singapore's southern coast. This year is the fourth installation, featuring lovable Sanrio characters at Siloso Beach. Prior booking is required to go for the event due to the need to limit the number of visitors during this COVID-19 pandemic, which can be done via the following URL:

Last evening, the queue to go into VivoCity from Harbourfront MRT station was horrendously long, extending all the way to near the exit leading to Harbourfront Centre. Because of that, I decided to tae a detour to the latter first to have dinner before going over to VivoCity via the third level without having to queue at all. Look at the lovely colours of the sky!
Honestly, I can't remember when was the last time I had to pay to enter Sentosa Island. At the point of writing, free island admission is in place until 31 March 2021, so I made use of Sentosa Express that'd typically cost S$4.00. Most of the time, I go to the resort island on foot via Sentosa Boardwalk. It used to cost S$1.00 to walk in, but the gantries have now been removed.
If you're taking the Sentosa Express, drop off at Beach Station and walk or take a tram to Sapphire Pavilion, which is the entry point. There are some simple LED installations along the way to guide you.
Originally set to end on 3 January 2021, the event has been extended to 10 January 2021. |
I just found out this morning that Pompompurin is a Golden Retriever. |
At the entrance, you need to perform check-in using SafeEntry, a digital system implemented by the Singapore government for the purpose of contact tracing during this COVID-19 pandemic. You also need to show your booking code to one of the staff members. Once again, it's mandatory to book a 1-hour session (7.30pm - 8.30pm, 8.30pm - 9.30pm or 9.30pm - 10.30pm) beforehand as no walk-ins will be entertained. Sessions available for booking open 5 days in advance at 12 midnight.
First of all, you shall walk through the trippy Sapphire Pavilion decorated with hanging hearts.
The first installation called 'Sentosa Island' features Hello Kitty, an anthropomorphic girl cat, as the guardian. As safe distancing measures and crowd management have to be exercised, do join the queue at each installation and be patient for your photo opportunity.
Hello Kity is one of the most successful marketing brands in the world. |
As the name suggests, 'Memory Lane' takes you a trip down the memory lane with a few photos taken in the past.
Hello Kitty's best friend, My Melody is a white rabbit. |
It was so breezy last night with a temperature of 24 degree Celsius. The last time I went to Siloso Beach was in January this year for the Asian Night Market: Taiwan Food Festival before COVID-19 wreaked havoc globally. Looking back to 2018, I went for Sentosa Sandsation 2018 that was also held there.
Bungy jumping at AJ Hackett Sentosa, anyone? |
What's your favourite Sanrio character? |
Seeing those lights immediately reminded me of Huis Ten Bosch in Nagasaki Prefecture, Japan. |
You'll get to see another Hello Kitty and a dragon lurking beneath the sand at 'Dragon Court'.
Meet and greet another My Melody at 'Fantasy Island'. The rainbow water slides are modelled after those at the now-defunct waterpark that used to be located at the present site of Universal Studios Singapore from 1994 to 2001. The queue for this particular installation was exceptionally long, so here's the best shot that I could take from a distance.
The installation nearest to the exit is titled 'Vintage Transport of Sentosa'.
Till date, I've never taken the cable car here in Singapore. |
Did you know that Kiki and Lala are the names of the Little Twin Stars? |
That's it? Something seems missing, right?
Fret not, Pompompurin is located just outside the gated area next to the SILOSO word block.
Pompompurin with its trademark beret loves to eat caramel pudding made by his mother. |
Take a selfie at the event and post your photo on Facebook or Instagram with the hashtag #SentosaIslandLights to enjoy discounts at participating F&B establishments, e.g. 5% off at LiHO and 10% at Marrybrown. More details can be found in the same link that I've included at the beginning of the post.
