SIN: W Singapore - Sentosa Cove [Phase 2 of Reopening]
21 Ocean Way, Sentosa Island, Singapore
W Hotels around the world are breaking the norms of traditional luxury, positioning themselves as chic hotels replete with playful vibes. Managed by Marriott International, W Singapore - Sentosa Cove (5*) is one option to escape from the fast-paced city life. The hotel was one of the first five hotels approved for staycation during Singapore's Phase 2 of Reopening.

To go to the hotel, I walked all the way from VivoCity to Beach Station via Sentosa Boardwalk. If you're not in the mood to walk such a distance, you can take Sentosa Express instead. At Beach Station, I hopped on the complimentary Sentosa Bus B and alighted right in front of the hotel.
At the point of writing, Universal Studios Singapore is closed from Monday to Wednesday. |
The bus departs from Beach Station every 15 to 20 minutes from 7.00am to 12.10am. |
The hotel has got 240 guest rooms.
It's either Good Morning, Good Afternoon or Good Evening depending on the time of the day. |
Here's a photo of the same staircase, which leads to the lobby area, taken in the evening. |
To my delight, I was granted access to my room before 1.00pm, even though the standard check-in time is 3.00pm. I was also allowed to check out 30 minutes after the standard check-out time of 12 noon.
Kudos to the hotel for having four efficient staff members at the front desk! |
The shop seemed to be closed throughout my stay. |
I was assigned to a room on the third floor.
Is it just me, or are those ornaments really captivating? |
I didn't stay in a room that faces the marina, but one towards the end of the corridor that offers the splendid view.
It's probably the least of everyone's concerns, but I wonder how many different keycard designs are there?
The lowest tier room is called Wonderful Room, which measures 40 square metres.
Be greeted by a moustache mirror and a hand holding on to something as you enter the room. |
I feel like getting a butterfly pendant light for my house next time. |
Let's check out the contents of the wardrobe.
As a non-business traveller, I've only done ironing in a hotel once in my life. |
The bag and the cap are available for purchase. |
Unlike in many other hotels, where mini bar items have been removed during the COVID-19 pandemic, you'll see them in full glory inside your room.
The hotel suggests mixing Absolut Vodka with orange juice, and having the cocktail with Pocky Chocolate. |
The movable bathroom partition allows you watch TV while soaking in the bath tub.
Dark purple is my most favourite colour. |
Perfectly powerful rain shower! |
MOMO shower set is infused with vitamin-packed yellow melon extract to nourish and rejuvenate your skin and hair.
"Whether you're kinky or straight", eh? One can definitely be both.
The luxurious The Residences at W can be seen from the room.
Time to explore the gym and the swimming pool at the lowest level!
Next to the gym is AWAY Spa, which is open daily from 10.00am to 10.00pm. |
During Singapore's Phase 2 of Reopening, guests were required to book a 1-hour time slot to use the gym. During my stay, the maximum number of guests allowed at any one time was 10.
The state-of-the-art gym is 235 square metres big. |
The website mentions that it's possible to reserve a one-on-one training session with a coach. |
WET Pool is one of Singapore's largest resort outdoor pool areas. It's open 24/7, but I recall that to use the facility between 9.00am and 7.00pm, booking of a 2-hour time slot was mandatory. I suppose the rule still applies during the current Phase 3 of Reopening.
The size of the main swimming pool is a whooping 1,338 square metres. |
As it wasn't too crowded, I took the water slide twice. |
The deepest part of the pool is only 1.2 m.
There's a jacuzzi section. |
For a split second, I thought I went to the wrong changing room, thanks to the irritating design that features female silhouttes on the cubicle doors.
Look above and you'll realise you're not alone in the shower! |
I had dinner at SKIRT, an awesome steakhouse where I had life-changing focaccia bread and Iberico pork tomahawk.
Reservation is required to dine there, which is only open in the evening from 6.00pm to 11.00pm. |
Watch the chefs in action on the parrilla grill as you wait for your food. Don't forget to head to my food blog for the review.
After dinner, I took a good look at the various artwork near the lobby area.
I like the paintings by Kwon Ki-Soo, which always features that smiley man. |
If only I can make money by drawing a similar chaos... |
I also walked along the corridor where the function rooms are.
Before having breakfast the next morning, I enjoyed the serenity at the swimming pool as there were no other people around.
Allow me to share the one and only selfie that I took! |
Breakfast is usually served at The Kitchen Table. However, as the restaurant was undergoing renovation in November 2020, guests had their breakfast in a temporary space that was by no means awful. I'd like to commend one of the middle-aged female staff who seems to be really enjoying her job, engaging guests in small conversations and ensuring that everyone is well-fed. I actually took down her name on my old phone that has unfortunately died not long after the staycation, and I really can't remember it now. From the bottom of my heart, thank you so much!
Breakfast time slots during Phase 2 of Reopening: 6.30am - 8.00am, 8.15am - 9.45am and 10.00am - 11.30am |
They made it a point to hang chandeliers on the ceiling. |
Last but not least, below are just a few photos of Sentosa Cove, which doesn't feel like Singapore at all.
It feels like time always slows down when watching sunset. |
Seeing this photo somehow reminds me of Stanley in Hong Kong, a laidback coastal town. |
In September 2020, W Singapore - Sentosa Cove underscores its inclusive policy by posting a photo of gay influencers on its Instagram account. Afterall, #LoveWins, right?
