JPN: Smile Hotel Nagoya Shinkansenguchi

21-20 Tsubaki-cho, Nagoya, Aichi, Japan

Bringing me a smile indeed, Smile Hotel Nagoya Shinkansenguchi (3*) lives up to its name with its prime location not far from the entrance to the bullet train platform of Nagoya station. For the price point, I'm not sure if there are any other hotels around offering free-flowing freshly grilled unagi (Japanese freshwater eel) for breakfast.

By the time I arrived at the hotel, it was already past 10:00 pm.

At check-in, I was handed the room key and breakfast tickets.
I was assigned to one of the rooms on the 8th floor. There are self-service amenities that can be found at the lift lobby at every floor.

The room is compact as expected, but I had a comfortable stay.

There's no ceiling light near the bed.

After a long day of travel, all I could think about was a refreshing shower.

Below are photos of the view from the room at night and in the morning.

You can find a microwave, vending machines, an ice machine, and washing machines on the second floor.

Each breakfast ticket entitles a guest to either a Japanese or a Western set meal every morning, but the real highlight is the self-service buffet with unagi. More details can be found in my food blog.

I truly enjoyed the unagi ochazuke (Japanese rice soaked in broth) in the morning.

One of the elderly staff members in the dining area was incredibly friendly, embodying the very essence of "service with a smile". I'm not sure if she can speak English as I conversed with her entirely in Japanese. Her warm and attentive service made the breakfast experience even more satisfying.
