CAN: Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge [Visit Only]

1 Old Lodge Road, Jasper National Park, Alberta, Canada

Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge (4*) is luxury mountain resort that wraps around the shores of the tranquil Beauvert Lake. Covering an area of approximately 283 hectares, it prides itself in being Canada's #1 golf resort course. I didn't stay at the hotel, but I'd registered online for an intimate planetarium experience there.

To go to the resort, my BFF and I purchased a C$6.00 (~S$6.25) one-way ticket each of the same shuttle service that brought us to Jasper SkyTram earlier. We took the last bus from Jasper Adventure Centre at 6.15pm.

Crossing Athabasca River~
At the end of the 15-minute ride, we were dropped off near the main building of the resort. We had some time to explore the grounds before going for the planetarium experience at 7.45pm.

It's an village of cedar lodges.
As with many other resorts, there are a number of outdoor recreational activities you can partake in. One of them is kayaking at Beauvert Lake.

Having an area of 0.4 square kilometres, Beauvert Lake is a remnant of what was once a much larger lake that covered the entire Jasper valley.

Relax and enjoy the scenery~

Such clear water!
We really enjoyed our peaceful walk there.

Following the trail around the Beauvert Lake~

I believe that's one of the luxury signature cabins.

That's a smaller lake called Mildred Lake.
I had fun trying to get closer to what I believe are squirrels, but to no avail. They were moving around so swiftly.

Don't be shy, little one!

It really looks adorable when standing up.
Take a look at the two short video clips below, featuring one that was squeaking cutely and another that was eating and eventually standing up.

Let's go to the main building.

Mildred Lake actually looks smaller than Beauvert Lake in Google Maps.

A family of bear statues spotted not far from the entrance of the main building!
In total, the resort has got 442 guest rooms and cabins, including those luxury signature cabins.

The interior is so elegant.

We rested at the lobby area while waiting for the planetarium experience to begin.

The planetarium experience costs C$30.45 (~S$31.60) per person, inclusive of 5% GST. It's certainly not cheap for a small planetarium that only seats up to 40 people, but I really enjoyed it for the intimate experience that allows some flexibility as to what we want to see as a big group, as well as time for immediate questions.

Besides the planetarium experience, you may also want to do stargazing as well.

The guide named Ahad is so friendly, personable and knowledgeable.
Truth be told, he majored in Biology, not Astronomy, in university.
After enjoying the 40-minute show, we started to head back to the town of Jasper by foot. We walked south to exit the resort area to Old Fort Point Road, a section of which happened to be closed to motorised vehicles at that time.

I'm sure calving season is the reason for the closure of the road.

Thankfully, we could still walk though Old Fort Point Road. We saw a cyclist along the way too.

3.5 km to town? No big deal!

In memory of those who served at Jasper Internment Camp during World War I...

We crossed Athabasca River.

The water was flowing pretty rapidly.

Beware of centaurs? Just kidding!

Instead of continuing to walk along Old Fort Point Road, we took a detour to Red Squirrel Run Trail.

It wasn't suprising that we were the only two people walking there at 9.30pm.

Enjoy the sound of the river rapids.

We finally saw Hazel Avenue leading to the town area at the end of the trail.

Take note of the maximum vehicle speed allowed of 50 km/h nearing the town area.

Welcome back to town! Time to look for dinner~
It took us about an hour to walk from Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge to town.
