CAN: Cascades of Time Garden

101 Mountain Avenue, Banff, Alberta, Canada
Daily: 8.00am - 11.00pm

If you're looking for a place to escape from the crowds in Banff Downtown and smell the flowers, look no further than Cascades of Time Garden. The tranquil terraced garden, which underwent a C$2.6 million (~S$2.68 million) redevelopment project that was completed in mid-2018, is located across Bow River Bridge.

My BFF and I reached the garden by foot. You can also take a Roam bus and alight at a stop that's just a stone's throw away from the side entrance of the garden.

There's no entrance fee to go to the garden.

What a nice view of Cascade Mountain!

Situated inside the garden is the classic-looking Banff National Park Administration Building. The style of the building is perceived to be harmonious with a mountain setting, evoking a sense of tradition and permanence.

James Bernard Harkin, known as the Father of National Parks, spent a period of 25 years organising a nationwide system of parks.

Did you know that Banff National Park and Huangshan National Forest Park in China are designated as sister parks?

In 2016, Banff Commonwealth Walkway was created to mark the 90th birthday of Queen Elizabeth II and celebrate Canada's roles and contributions as a member of the Commonwealth.

The 5-hectare plot of land was originally the home of Brett Sanatorium and Hotel built in the 1880s in response to the discovery of sulfur hot springs in Banff.

The hotel eventually burned down and the land was eventually claimed by Parks Canada in 1935.
The Cascades of Time Garden takes up about 1.6 hectares.

That gazebo looks like a medieval structure.

On average, the town of Banff receives 3.5 million visitors every year. Despite that, it's estimated that only less than 1% of the total number of visitors actually drops by the beautiful garden annually.

Sitting down there and listening to the birds chirping calmed my soul.

Those somehow look like tumours to me.
I walked to the topmost section of the terraced garden.

Peak blooming seasons run from late May to early September.

Here are some close-up shots of flowers and plants that I took that day.

What's your favourite colour for flowers?

Looking so fluffy~

I was lucky to be able to see a squirrel eating happily. I had to hold my breath as I inched closer to it.

I was glad that I didn't skip the garden, a respite from the frenetic pace of the downtown area.
