CAN: Banff Downtown

Banff, Alberta, Canada

The town of Banff was incorporated as a municipality in 1990, which was the first one to be incorporated inside a national park. Situated at an elevation of 1,383 m, it's Canada's highest town. The bustling town centre covers an area of 3.93 square kilometres. The photo below was taken at a store called Cool as a Moose.

The skyline of the resort town is dominated by the peaks of Mount Rundle and Mount Cascade.

You can reach the town centre from Inns of Banff by foot within 15 minutes if you're a fast walker.

I'd certainly love to buy a house and live there.

"Please don't climb [onto] the moose!"

Roam is the name of the bus system for both the towns of Banff and Canmore. At the point of writing, there are ten routes in total: five that operate year-round and another five that operate seasonally.

Banff Visitor Centre opens from 8.00am to 8.00pm daily during summer, and from 9.00am to 5.00pm during other seasons.

It's only closed once every year on 25 December.

Parka the Beaver is the mascot of Parks Canada. He has got a couple of friends.
Quite a number of streets in the downtown area are named after the animals that reside in Banff National Park.

Caribou is another name of reindeer.
St. Paul's Presbyterian Church was established in 1887 with those of Scottish descent working the railways wanting a church to worship in during summer.

Tourism is the economic driver of the town.

I like that sign that says "inclusivity is true to our nature".

David is the name of my BFF who often joins my trip.

Oil or cheese fondue, anyone?

It's always 25 December at The Spirit of Christmas!

The Christmas shop is open daily from 10.00am to 9.00pm.

"Let it go, let it go~ Can't hold it back anymore~"

Don't you agree that December is the most magical month of the year?

Cows is a renowned ice cream shop in town that offers not only such a delicacy, but also souvenirs.

Looking for Asian products? Banff Asian Market has lots in store.

I saw an awesome bottled whiskey in the shape of a dragon at a liqueur store.

There's a cinema in town, which is slightly bigger than the one in Jasper Downtown.

There are a few small shopping malls there.

Pedestrian scramble was first used in the USA and Canada in the late 1940s.
There was a trial done in Singapore at Orchard Road in 2017, but nothing has come out of it.

Clock Tower Village Mall has got a distinctive Austrian alpine exterior.

Inside one of them, though I can't remember which one, is a shop selling ammolites and other precious items. Nautilus alert!

Central Park is a spacious green space along Bow River.

That dog kept looking at me. Haha...

Banff Mountain Market, which is happening at Central Park every Wednesday from May to October from 10.00am to 6.00pm, was a serendipitous find as I'd had no idea about it until I saw the congregation of tents.

The light-coloured Rainier cherries are named after Mount Rainier in Seattle, the USA.

Would you like some honey and beeswax?

Lovely soap bars!

Expect a number of food and beverage stalls that'd make your mouth water.

Crossing Bow River Bridge brings you to the other part of the town. I'll write separate posts on Cascades of Time Garden and Cave and Basin.

Banff Indian Trading Post has been selling native goods since 1903.

Completed in 1923, the bridge is adorned with small river stones and rocks from Mount Rundle.

Take a look at my food blog posts of these eateries in town:
