CAN: Lake Louise Wildlife Interpretive Centre

1 Whitehorn Road, Lake Louise, Alberta, Canada
Daily: 8.00am - 5.00pm

Since all the trails were closed due to the unfriendly weather, my BFF and I spent most of our time at the Wildlife Interpretive Centre after taking Lake Louise Gondola. It's a small, but informative centre to discover what makes life in Banff National Park uniquely spectacular.

From the upper gondola station, we first made our way to the nearby observation platform.

"I walk the empty streets on the boulevard of broken dreams~"

Wouldn't it be lovely to jump onto that thick patch of snow?

Alas, it was impossible to see the mountain range that day.

It costs C$1.00 (~S$1.05) to use the binoculars.
I recall it was a mere 10 minutes' drive from the hotel to the gondola site.

The Wildlife Interpretive Centre is approximately 15 minutes away from the upper gondola station by foot.

The temperature was hovering around -5 degree Celsius that afternoon.

If only the trails were opened...

Along the way to the centre, there are signs telling you about the seven wonders of Lake Louise.

Whitebark pines have long needles that grow in groups of five.

I'd really love to see that wild cat species in real life, but it's generally reclusive and nocturnal.

Did you know that a grizzly bear can eat up to 200,000 buffalo berries a day during fall?
In terms of total calories, they're equivalent to 75 Big Macs!
There's a gift shop inside the centre.

Keychains are priced at C$5.00 (~S$5.15) before taxes.
Enjoy the collections of the centre.

The existence of cutthroat trouts is threatened as they're very sensitive to the changes in water quality.

That facial expression when you're having a bad day...

What sound does a lynx make? Not meow, right?

Such a gentle-looking moose~
Cougars, which are native to the Americas, are rarely spotted. No, I'm not referring to the informal meaning of the noun.

Everywhere in Jasper National Park and Banff National Park seems so interested in telling you about the differences between black and grizzly bears.

Unlike a black bear, a grizzly bear has a large hump of muscles between its shoulders.

The centre has a lot of information about the bears.

What's the best thing to do when you encounter a bear?

That's an original cast of a grizzly bear track.

Residential garbage bins attract bears like bees to flowers. We don't want them to be eating and eventually being dependent on our leftovers.

You're encouraged to touch those that're allowed.

Don't use those for weightlifting!

Feel my lovely fur!
You may want to spend a bit of time watching some of the short wildlife documentaries.

If you have kids, you can let them do some colouring.

On the second floor is Whitehorn Bistro, which proudly offers a contemporary menu with alpine-featured items and local products.

Once we were done exploring the centre, we walked back to the upper gondola station.

When the weather is good, you may want to partake in a guided hike organised by the centre.
