CAN: Medicine Lake

Maligne Lake Road, Jasper National Park, Alberta, Canada

Medicine Lake is a geological anomaly in the sense that it's not actually a lake, but rather an area in which Maligne River backs up and suddenly disappears undergrond as a losing stream. The lake aside, this post focuses mostly on the few wild animals encountered during the Premium Lakes and Wildlife Tour by SunDog Tours.

After enjoying the cruise to see the beauty of Maligne Lake and Spirit Island, my BFF and I witnessed the first wildlife, which began to emerge as the temperature had dropped as the afternoon went by.

It's a female mule deer.
Not long after that, we encountered the second wildlife.

Can you spot the animal in this photo?
My BFF borrowed our guide's binoculars to have a closer look at the black bear, taking the video clip below using his iPhone.

We stopped by at Medicine Lake, which is approximately 7 km long.

A relatively shallow lake, it's mainly glacial fed.

Our guide, Jeff, was so excited to tell us that a bald eagle was resting on its nest. However, it flew away too soon before we could take a closer look using the binoculars.

Let's take a closer look at the nest then.

We were really happy to be able to see another black bear much closer. Please don't attempt to get out of your car as you'll be seen as a threat by the wild animals. Simply take photos and videos from inside the car with doors and windows closed. Let's not risk our own lives and theirs.

Crossing the road~
Enjoy the two video clips taken by my BFF.

Here's the last wildlife that we saw for the day: a female elk.

Take a look at it eating its dinner happily.

Wildlife sighting can't be guaranteed by the tour company, but I suppose we were quite lucky to be able to see four different wild animals as we made our way back to the town of Jasper.
