CAN: Athabasca Falls

Highway 93A, Jasper National Park, Alberta, Canada

It was time to say goodbye to Jasper National Park and leave for the next destination: Banff National Park. Too lazy to hire a car and drive, my BFF and I went for SunDog Tours' Jasper to Banff One-Way Sightseeing Tour. More details are given below, so do read on. Along the way, we first dropped by the mighty Athabasca Falls.

The abovementioned sightseeing tour costs C$249.00 (~S$259.15) per person, inclusive of two major attractions under Columbia Icefield Adventure: Athabasca Glacier and Columbia Icefield Skywalk. It also includes stops here and there along the way, as well as packed lunch. We were picked up by our awesome guide named Dave at Jasper Downtown Hostel at 8.30am.

Apparently, the two of us were the only guests that day, thus it became a private tour.
Such a big van just for us!

About 30 minutes later, we reached Athabasca Falls. It's located approximately 30 km south of the town of Jasper.

Remember, life is precious!

It was a pretty cloudy day, and it actually drizzled a bit along the way to Banff.

Athabasca Falls isn't known so much for its height of 23 m, but for its force due to the copious amount of water falling into a gorge.

The river falls over a layer of hard quartzite and through the softer limestone below.

Can you see the rainbow?

Enjoy the sound of the powerful falls.

We didn't have a lot of time there as we had to catch the Columbia Icefield Adventure, so we didn't get to explore the lower canyon.

Going down leads you to abandoned channels and ancient potholes.
We went to see the falls from the other side.

I was sprayed all over by standing there.

From there, we continued our ride to the next stop: Sunwapta Falls Resort.

Undulating road ahead!

Look at those magnificent layers!

We were given a bit of time to look at the gift shop and pick our packed lunch.

My protein bars! Haha!
I decided to get turkey bacon wraps with honey mustard mayonnaise and an orange. I forgot to take a photo of my BFF's roasted herb chicken sandwich and apple. Bottled fruit juice and mineral water were available in the chiller box inside the van.

Stretching 232 km from the town of Jasper to Lake Louise, Icefields Parkway is rated as one of the top scenic drives in the world.

The whole drive can be done within 3 hours, but you should stop and enjoy the view along the way.

We stopped by a vantage point.

Road-tripping always makes me happy.

Not far from there is a waterfall that I can't recall the name.

While browsing the items at the gift shop at Sunwapta Falls Resort, I overheard Dave talking to the cashier, "I've only got two guys from Singapore today. Two awesome guys! I've really got a good feeling about them and the day ahead." Thank you, Dave! You're awesome too! :)
