CAN: Jasper Downtown

Jasper, Alberta, Canada

Nestled in the largest national park in the Canadian Rockies that's Jasper National Park is the alpine town of Jasper. Situated within Athabasca River Valley, the peaceful town with its fair share of accommodations, shops and eateries covers an area of approximately 925 square kilometres.

The town and the surrounding rural area is established as a specialised municipality in 2001. Governance is shared between the municipality and the federal Parks Canada agency.

The 13.7 m tall totem pole in town was raised in 2011.

My BFF and I dropped by the information centre to take some pamphlets.

It's one of the first rustic style buildings to be built in a Canadian national park.

Would I be lucky enough to spot an elk?

The mountain view is breathtaking.

That restaurant looks like a nice place to dine at.
The 2016 population census recorded a total of 4,590 only in the municipality.

Jasper Lutheran Church

I wonder how much does a landed property there cost roughly?

Jasper Elementary School has been in operation since 1975.

Nearby is a stand dedicated for book sharing. Take a book to indulge in and/or leave a book for other people to pick up.

We did most of our exploration on one of the days after 8.30pm, enjoying the serenity of the town without many vehicles passing by.

Does anyone know what's that building with a structure that looks like a castle tower?

They should repaint that faded rainbow crossing.

Looking for groceries? Head to The Grocery People (TGP).

Having been around since 1996, Our Native Land is a gallery-cum-shop with lots of interesting and exquisite articles.

Those bars of soaps really appeal to my senses.

VIA Rail - Jasper train station is where we dropped off after an awesome ride onboard The Canadian from Vancouver for about 19 hours.

What a handsome train!

More Jasperites made their living from railroading during the first half of the 20th century
before tourism in the area grew to the scale it's today.
I really enjoyed my evening walk in such a serene atmosphere.

Pardon me, but do tell if that the name of that shop is going to make at least one of you smirk.

Maple fudge sounds nice, no? I forgot to give it a try.

Chaba Theatre is the place if you're looking for a movie experience in a small, quaint theatre.

Conceptualised in 1948, Jasper the Bear was officially adopted by Jasper National Park as its mascot in 1962.

Last but not least, there's a candy shop near Jasper Downtown Hostel.

Have you eaten such stuff before?

Here are the four eateries that we visited:
Bear's Paw Bakery (Western)
Syrahs of Jasper (Western)
- Lou Lou's Breakfast & Pizzeria (Western and Italian)
- Jasper Brewing Company (Western, Italian and Japanese)
