JPN: Dormy Inn Gifu Ekimae

6-31 Yoshinomachi, Gifu City, Gifu, Japan

After enjoying a refreshing morning at Mount Kinka, I made my way to the city centre for a change of pace. My next stop was Dormy Inn Gifu Ekimae (3*), a business hotel chain that offers a host of thoughtful touches from relaxing massage chairs to comforting supper, all included in the room rate.

Though not situated directly outside the main train station of the city, the hotel can be reached by foot within 10 minutes.

The 11-storey hotel houses close to 150 guest rooms.

Free hot coffee is available daily from 3.00pm to 11.00pm.

The lift is equipped with a seat that doubles as a toilet in case of emergency.

In fact, tucked away out of sight are provisions like deodorant spray, toilet roll and drinking water.

Here’s what double room at the hotel looks like.

With the shower and toilet housed in separate rooms, the sink is positioned outside.

As I've started planning to buy a retirement property, I wonder if I should install a modern Japanese-style toilet.
Rooms on the higher floors offer a modest view of the urban tapestry with rolling green mountains in the backdrop.

Don't forget to enjoy the peach jelly inside the fridge.

After having dinner outside, I returned to the hotel for a soothing soak in the public bath. The hotel uses mineral-rich water transported from the well-known Ikeda Onsen within the prefecture.

There's a small lounge nearby with two massage chairs and shelves full of comic books available all day long.

That’s also where you can help yourself to a popsicle or two anytime from 3.00pm to 1.00am.

Before heading back to the room, I stopped by the dining area for supper.

The night-time soba (lit. buckwheat noodle) is served daily from 9.30pm to 11.00pm.
In the morning, I was greeted by a pretty generous breakfast spread.

Boys and girls, don’t forget to eat your vegetables!

I was so excited upon spotting warabi mochi, a chewy treat dusted with roasted soybean flour.

Before checking out, I managed to squeeze in one last visit to the public bath. Afterwards, I enjoyed some refreshing probiotic drinks and took advantage of the massage chair too.

They're available from 5.00am to 10.00am.

My first stay at Dormy Inn was a great one. I’d happily choose to stay at their hotels when visiting other prefectures without hesitation.
