CAN: Toronto Downtown

Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Toronto, the capital of the Ontario province, is the largest city in Canada. As an international centre of business, finance, arts, sports and culture, it's one of the most multi-cultural and cosmopolitan cities in the world. It's said that approximately half of its residents were born outside of Canada.

The principal airport of Toronto is named in honour of the 14th Prime Minister of Canada, Lester B. Pearson, who was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1957 for his significant contributions in peacekeeping efforts.

At the point of writing, a one-way train ticket from the airport to Union station costs C$12.35 (~S$12.25).

The train service operates every 15 minutes from the airport.
At Union station, I had my first experience using a handphone sanitising machine.

As an intermodal transportation hub in Toronto, Union station is Canada's busiest transportation facility and the second busiest railway station in North America that serves more than 72 million passengers annually.

Canada's most opulent railway station was declared open in 1927.

The station has held the prestigious designation of being a National Historic Site of Canada since 1975.

Located on the northern shore of Lake Ontario is the Harbourfront area. Radisson Blu Toronto Downtown is situated within the area.

The brewery-cum-restaurant has been around since 1986.
The area once hosted numerous industries, but with changes in shipping patterns and thus the diminished use of the harbour, it's eventually converted into a mixed-use zone, primarily for residential and recreational purposes.

Northern Spirit I is a 576-passenger yacht style dining vessel with two dining decks and one observation deck.

I spotted a plane making its way to Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport.
Toronto Railway Museum is located within the 17-acre Roundhouse Park, offering both indoor and outdoor exhibits. Whil access to the outdoor section is free, admission to the indoor section is priced at C$17.00 (~S$16.85) per adult.

Built in 1896, Don station is the last nineteenth century train station standing in Toronto.

Rec Room offers an array of arcade games, Virtual Reality experiences and Canadian dishes under one roof.
Woodpecker Column is a public artwork featuring two birds: pileated woodpecker and yellow-bellied sapsucker.

Soaring to a height of 553.3 m, CN Tower held the record for the world's tallest free-standing structure from 1975 to 2007 until it was surpassed by Dubai's Burj Khalifa.

Toronto's Hockey Hall of Fame was established in 1943.

Dedicated to the history of ice hockey, it holds exhibits about players, teams and memorabilia.

St. Lawrence Market is a major public market in Toronto. The first buildings erected for the market emerged in 1814.

The building was damaged after the Great Fire of Toronto of 1849, and was replaced with a new one in 1851.

When considering health food, what typically comes to your mind first?

Did you know that St. Lawrence Market was named the world's best food market by National Geographic in 2012?

Emu meat, anyone?

I really wanted to try the Chinese food, but I'd got no more space in my stomach.
We then made our way to Cathedral Church of St. James.

Look at that network of tram cables!

The Anglican cathedral holds the distinction of being home to the oldest congregation in Toronto, with its parish established in 1797.

The cathedral is a prime example of Gothic Revival architecture designed by Frederick William Cumberland.

The church was officially designated as a cathedral in 1936.

My BFF and I had the opportunity to visit the year-end winter village at the Distillery district, a 13-acre area featuring the largest collection of Victorian era industrial architecture in North America.

The district was once the largest distillery area in the world.

Oden (a kind of Japanese one-pot dish) is one of the best things to have in winter.
