SIN: PARKROYAL COLLECTION Pickering [Phase 2 (Heightened Alert)]

3 Upper Pickering Street, Singapore

Officially opened in 2013, PARKROYAL COLLECTION Pickering (5*) is a testament to the fact that architecture and greenery can blend very, very well. Given its stunning appearance, it's hard not to be tempted to have a staycation there, but I'd been resisting the idea for some time it since the hotel is located way too near my house.

"A building that breathes. A space that renews. An icon that inspires." The green hotel houses 367 guest rooms.

Located in front of the hotel is Hong Lim Park where I stood to take this particular photo.

Despite it being a weekday, the hotel saw quite a number of guests. There were about ten groups ahead of me when I joined the check-in queue. Since I was there during Phase 2 (Heightened Alert) where dine-in was prohibited, I had to indicate my choices for breakfast, along with the preferred timing, that'd be delivered to the room.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, each guest would receive a care pack.
The lobby area looks cosy enough.

Those lounge chairs look rather tired though.

There's a bar on the first floor. Had it not for Phase 2 (Heightened Alert), I would've been able to sit there and grab the complimentary cocktails that were in included in the awesome room rate that I scored earlier this year.

The hotel's only eatery is called Lime Restaurant. Obviously I didn't dine there during my stay, but I'd previously had an a la carte lunch there.

I was assigned to a Lifestyle Room on the 14th floor. There are 16 floors altogether.

Quite an impressive lift lobby, no?

Pinnacle@Duxton, the world's tallest public residential building with 50 floors, can be seen from the corridor.

Ready to enter room 1412?

Each Lifestyle Room has a floor area between 28 to 32 square metres.

It's such a lovely room featuring stone and wood finishes.

The minibar was empty.

Care for some Nespresso coffee and TWG tea?

Take a look at the informative cube that shows how the hotel is going green.

Please don't flash yourself to the gardeners. Lower the blinds with the touch of a button.

I can surely wake up to that view every single morning without getting bored.

The bathroom is tastefully done as well.

Not all Lifestyle Rooms have got a bathtub. Lucky me!

Thank you for the powerful rain shower!

I had a good nap before going out for a walk and subsequently buying dinner from Don Don Donki at The Central.

Did I manage to get a good shot of the illuminated green walls along the corridor?

Bon appetit!

I had an unpleasant experience with the service at the hotel. During check-in, I was told that I could redeem the complimentary cocktails until 10.00pm via phone call from the room. When I did so, I was initially told that I could only do so from 6.00pm to 8.00pm only, and then I was asked to go down to the front desk to place my order. At the front desk, I was told that I couldn't place my order there and the person asked me to do so by calling from the room again. At that point of time, I could feel my blood pressure going up a little, but I kept my cool.

I went up to the room and made another phone call. At first, the person picking up the call was still reluctant to take my order, but he obliged in the end. After the mini saga, the cocktails in plastic cups were finally delivered to the room.

The next morning, breakfast was delivered to the room at 8.10am as I chose the 8.00am to 8.30am time slot.

There's an outdoor terrace on the fifth floor of the hotel, which can be booked for private solemnisations and cocktail parties according to the website.

The venue can accommodate up to 80 guests.

They say eating spicy food may help you live longer.

Take the stairs down to the 300-metre garden walk, which is pretty fun to explore.

There are quite a few palm species there, such as yellow cane palm that's native to Madagascar.

The sky garden is designed to be self-sustaining and consume minimal energy through the usage of solar cells, motion sensors, rainwater harvesting and reclaimed water.

The tiered sky garden boasts 15,000 square metres of greenery.
During my stay, the swimming pool was accessible from 6.00am to 8.00pm. I had to do a prior reservation, and it was limited to an hour per guest per day.

That's the jacuzzi section.

Does anyone know what's the length of the infinity pool?

I love the vibe of the toilet.

It's such a pity that I couldn't use the gym as it was closed during Phase 2 (Heightened Alert).

St. Gregory Spa is open daily from 10.30am to 8.00pm.

Now I'm interested to try out PARKROYAL COLLECTION Marina Bay. Perhaps next year!
